The latest update to the NY State Department of Motor Vehicle website now states that all appointments for hearings scheduled for Monday and Tuesday November 5th and 6th will be rescheduled, specifically asking motorist, to "please" not show up for scheduled hearings.  Notices with new hearing dates will be mailed out.

DMV appears not to be sure if they wil reschedule Wednesday, November 7th hearings yet, stating that you should check back their website.  They canceled the New York City Marathon today with one justification being that police officers are needed for Hurricane recovery related work.  The local DMV's usually have hundreds of NYPD cops testifying in cases for moving violations daily.  By having postponed hearings for 7 consecutive work days, they have basically freed an army of New York's finest to help out in the relief effort.  This is a win/win for Hurricane relief and actually for motorists with trials-- remember, that the older your ticket becomes, the more likely the cop will forget details and the better the chances you have of actually winning your case.
